WACCIMA VISITS THE CUSTOMS AREA CONTROLLER, NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE, EDO/DELTA COMMAND ON THURSDAY, 14TH JANUARY, 2021

The President, Mr. Richard O. Akaighe led a WACCIMA delegation on a Courtesy Visit to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller A. Usman who noted with pleasure that WACCIMA is the first Association to visit his office since his resumption at Edo/Delta Command 2months ago.

The purpose of the visit which well was articulated in the President’s Speech was presented by the President to the Customs Area Controller.


In his response, the Customs Area Controller revealed the challenges confronting the Edo/Delta Command ranging from underutilization of the Port, low drought, insecurity and poor infrastructures – road. He called on WACCIMA to throw its weight on the appropriate authorities to ameliorate these challenges.

Barr. Chris O. Ojeke, Chairman, WACCIMA Government Affairs/Publicity Committee and Executive Assistance to the Governor on Peace Development and Advocacy, who was also on the WACCIMA delegation noted that Government is already working with the Ports Authority on further dredging of the Port and curbing insecurity. He promised to pass these concerns to Government for prompt attention.

Mr. S. C. Iwuji also added that the Shipping Trade Group recently met the NPA Harbour Master who affirmed that the main cause of the drought which is the brick water is already being addressed.

On the way forward, the following were recommended:
* Sincerity of purpose and strong Political will on the part of Government in addressing the challenges confronting the Delta Ports.

* Reduced and competitive cost of operation to attract more patronage of the Delta Ports by importers.

* Curbing of youth restiveness and insecurity.

The NCS Edo/Delta Command is willing and ready to partner with WACCIMA in ensuring further growth of businesses in Warrior and environs.
